Case Study Implicates Chronic Venous Congestion of the Liver

Scientists in Japan recently presented a case study concerning an elderly man with Budd-Chiari syndrome, hepatocellular carcinoma, and no evidence of hepatitis virus.

Budd-Chiari syndrome is often associated with hepatocellular carcinoma, but the etiology of this association is not fully understood. According to the report, scientists could find no evidence of hepatitis A, B, C, D, E, or G virus in the 80-year-old man, even though he suffered from the cancer and the syndrome.
