Brachial Plexus Catheter Infiltration Can Provide Upper Extremity Pain Relief

Using a catheter reservoir system to deliver anesthetic directly to the brachial plexus can provide pain relief to patients with cancer in the upper extremities, researchers report.

M.Y. Wang and colleagues at the University of Southern California described a case study involving a 47-year-old Hispanic man who had undergone surgery for squamous cell carcinoma of the larynx, as well as radiation treatment and chemotherapy ("Brachial plexus catheter reservoir for the treatment of upper-extremity cancer pain: Technical case report," Neurosurgery, 2000;46(4):1009-1012).
