V.B. Pai and a colleague from Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio, discussed the implications of anthracycline cytostatic antibiotics and alkylating agents on the cardiovascular system. Some of the most common chemotherapy treatments, they stated, result in cardiotoxicity. Doxorubicin, danurubicin, and fluorouracil, for instance, may create cardiotoxicity in more than 20% of treated patients.
