Cytokine-Activated Natural Killer Cells Tested in Patients

Researchers in Germany tested the feasibility of the adoptive transfusion of allogeneic natural killer (NK) cells as therapy for renal cell carcinoma.

"Patients with metastasized renal cell carcinoma have a poor prognosis with conventional therapies," stated C. Frohn and colleagues, Medical University of Lubeck, Germany. "The feasibility and safety of donating purified NK cells without additional cytokines were evaluated. In contrast to all previous studies, the NK cells were derived from allogenic donors."
