Estimated Cell Percentage is Prognostic of Recurrence After Radical Prostatectomy

The visual estimation of the percentage of tumor cells in prostate tissue specimens from patients who undergo radical prostatectomy is a simple, inexpensive method for obtaining independent prognostic information after radical prostatectomy, according to a study published in the September 15, 2000, issue of Cancer.

Gustavo F. Carvalhal and co-authors state that "the mean percentage of carcinoma in specimens from the group of patients who did not have a disease recurrence was significantly lower, by 12.5%, than in the group of patients who had disease recurrence."
