The protein, which is characterized as being a member of the transforming growth factor (TGF) beta 1 receptor structure, is called endoglin. According to researchers reporting in the journal Obstetrics and Gynecology, endoglin might be an endothelial marker for new growth in cervical cancers.
Medical investigators obtained cervical cancer tumor samples from 31 women who had been previously diagnosed with stage 1B cervical cancer. Tumor size was less than 5 cm in the cancer patients.
