Thirteen "Core" Factors Account for Majority of Symptoms and Side Effects

A list of 13 "core" items on a symptoms inventory accounted for approximately 64% of variability in symptom interference among cancer patients with various malignancies and stages of disease, according to a study that appears in the October 1, 2000, issue of Cancer.

Conducted by Charles S. Cleeland, PhD, and associates at the M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas, the study also indicated that the "core" items are sensitive to expected differences in symptoms and treatment side effects.
