Novel Bladder Cancer Model Provides Way to Study Relevant Levels of Chemotherapy

Investigators in England have developed a new model of bladder cancer that allows researchers to study the effectiveness of chemotherapies at dosages that are normally reserved for clinical practice.

The model combines explanted rat bladder tissue and fluorescent stained cancer cells in a culture system that mimics the human bladder.

Researchers at Southampton General Hospital in Hants, England, developed the new model. Rat bladder tissues grown in serum-supplemented medium were seeded with parental and resistant MGH-U1 urothelial cancer cells.
