MAGE-1 Gene Detected in Liver Cancers of Chinese Study Group

- by Sonia Nichols, staff medical writer -- Peking University researchers suggest that the MAGE-1 gene is found more often in the tumor tissues of Chinese patients with hepatocellular carcinoma than in their normal adjacent tissues.

The significance of this finding could potentially be important to those working to develop new peptide based therapies for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), according to authors of the new study.

While working with the liver tissues of 45 patients with HCC, 16 patients with liver cirrhosis, and 12 with no liver disease, H.S. Chen et al. observed that MAGE-1 mRNA was present within the tumors of 32 patients with HCC. ...
