Transcription Factor May be Key to Hepatitis-Related Hepatocellular Carcinoma

- by Sonia Nichols, staff medical writer -- A single transcription factor - nuclear factor kappaB (NF-kappaB) - may play an important role in the development of hepatocellular carcinoma in patients with hepatitis B virus (HBV) or hepatitis C virus (HCV).

Scientists suggest the possibility that hepatitis viruses could initiate its activity, leading to mechanisms that promote cell proliferation and the eventual onset of liver cancer.
