Antisense Amyloid Beta Protein Precursor Suppresses Tumor Growth

by Deborah W. Heinrich, staff medical writer - Researchers at Miyazaki Medical College in Japan report that the proliferative potential and colony-forming efficiency of human colon carcinoma cell line SW837 was suppressed by antisense amyloid beta protein precursor (APP) oligonucleotides.

Although a membrane-bound form of AAP is expressed by many cell types, J.Y. Meng and colleagues previously reported that a soluble form of the protein is secreted by human colon carcinoma cells. The secreted form inhibited serine proteinase most likely via a Kunitz-type inhibitor domain, they suggested.
