Vascular Remodeling Factor Angiopoietin-1 Modulates Tumor Angiogenesis

by Sonia Nichols, senior medical writer - A new study reports angiopoietin-1 regulates angiogenesis mechanisms in glioblastomas.

Several studies have shown the endothelial cell-specific receptors Tie 1 and Tie 2 bind with vascular remodeling molecules called angiopoietins. Now, researchers in Italy suggest angiopoietin-1 is a significant modulator of angiogenesis in glioblastomas.

Using immunohistochemical analysis and in situ hybridization, Enrica Audero and research colleagues studied several cell lines for the expression of angiopoietins 1 (Ang1) and 2 (Ang2) in astrocytomas and glioblastomas.
