Specific Transient Gene Transfer Achieved With Regional Organ Perfusion

Heinrich, PhD, staff medical writer - Researchers at the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York City achieved specific transient transfer of herpes simplex virus carrying human tumor necrosis factor alpha (HSVtnf) in the lungs of a methylcholanthrene sarcoma rat lung metastasis model.

To improve regional organ delivery of therapeutic genes, A.D. Brooks and colleagues perfused herpes simplex virus carrying a beta-galactosidase gene (HSVlac) into the lungs, livers, and bladders of rats. Brooks and coworkers reported in Surgery that following a 20-minute perfusion, HSVlac was expressed specifically in the treated organs. No tissue damage...
