Treatments Have Long-Term Effects On Immune System

by Michael Greer, senior medical writer - Pediatric leukemia treatments can cause long-term immune system impairment, researchers in Iceland warn, adding, however, that the impact of this dysfunction may be limited.

"With greatly increased survival rates after childhood leukemia during the last three decades, the long-term effects of the treatment have became more evident," according to V.H. Kristinsson and colleagues. "The disease and its treatment impair the immune system, but the duration of this impairment is unknown."
