Contrast Agent Distinguishes Solid Tumors From Subretinal Effusion

by Sonia Nichols, senior medical writer - The contrast agent Levovist is somewhat useful for visualizing tumor vascularization in uveal melanoma, but it is more effective for distinguishing solid tumors from subretinal hemorrhage, according to a German study of color Doppler sonography.

Uveal melanoma forms in the uvea, or vascular layer of the eye. Researchers in Berlin at Humboldt University have issued a report of the value of Levovist, a contrast agent, for differentiating tumor-associated blood vessels from normal blood vessels in this particular type of cancer.
