Growth Factor Levels Indicate Likelihood Of Metastasis

Elevated levels of a growth factor indicate which men diagnosed with prostate cancer are likely to need more aggressive treatment, researchers at Baylor College of Medicine have discovered.

"This marker, measured through a simple blood test, indicates at a very early stage which patients may have prostate cancer that has already begun to spread to other areas of the body," said Dr. Kevin Slawin, associate professor of urology and director of the Baylor Prostate Center, Houston, Texas. "It can give us an early warning for who will need more aggressive therapy."
