Stem Cell Mobilization Only Effective In Early Stages

by Michael Greer, senior medical writer - Hematopoietic stem cell mobilization in multiple myeloma patients has a high failure rate if not performed in the early stages of the disease, researchers in Spain report.

Dr. Granada Perea and colleagues at Hospital de la Santa Creu i Sant Pau in Barcelona and the Cancer Research Institute in L'Hospitalet de Llobregat "analyzed the prognostic factors for a successful mobilization and peripheral blood stem cell collection in a series of 57 consecutive patients with multiple myeloma (MM)" for their report in the October 2001 issue of the Annals of Hematology.
