Therapeutic HPV vaccine shows promise

by Maria G. Essig, MS, ELS, senior medical writer - A therapeutic vaccine containing plasmid DNA that codes for the human papillomavirus (HPV) provoked an immune response in patients with HPV-related anal dysplasia, researchers in the U.S. found.

"High-grade dysplasia induced by high-risk types of human papillomavirus (HPV) precedes invasive cancer in anal squamous epithelium just as it does in the cervix," said B. Klencke and collaborators at University of California at San Francisco.
