Endostatin

Antiangiogenic protein is tumor marker in hepatocellular carcinoma

by Sonia Nichols, senior medical writer - A Japanese study of protein markers in cancer patients suggests serum endostatin can predict tumor vascularity in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), a primary form of liver cancer.

Scientists know that angiogenesis, or new vessel growth, encourages the progression of HCC. However, few studies have looked at whether serum levels of endostatin, a natural angiogenesis inhibitor, may also be related to the presence of HCC. A study of HCC in Japan patients suggests that it is.
