Modifying doxorubicin delivery extends its utility in cancer patients

by Sonia Nichols, senior medical writer - A modified form of doxorubicin appears to increase its duration of efficacy in multiple myeloma patients, according to researchers at the Cleveland Clinic Cancer Center in Ohio.

"Patients with multiple myeloma (MM) have increased bone marrow angiogenesis, a low plasma cell labeling index, and multidrug resistance (the primary cause of chemotherapy failure)," described Mohamad A. Hussein and colleagues, who work with the Center's Multiple Myeloma Research Programs.
