Prostate and breast cancer deaths more common among the obese

by Maria G. Essig, MS, ELS, senior medical writer - In a large cohort in the United Kingdom, obesity increased the risks of developing prostate cancer and breast cancer but not colorectal cancer, according to a report in the Journal of Epidemiology and Community Health.

Mona Okasha and colleagues at the Universities of Bristol and Glasgow and the Queen's University of Belfast in the United Kingdom studied mortality rates and causes in a cohort of 8335 men and 2340 women who attended the University of Glasgow between 1948 and 1968.

The subjects were followed for an average of 41 years to determine the association between body mass index (BMI)...
