Obesity increases cancer risk in women with lupus

by Maria G. Essig, MS, ELS, senior medical writer - Obesity appears to increase the risk of solid tumor development in women with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), according to a report in the Journal of Rheumatology.

"There is mounting evidence that hematological malignancies are increased in systemic lupus erythematosus, and the risk of certain solid tumors may also be increased," said Sasha Bernatsky and colleagues at Montreal General Hospital and McGill University in Montreal, Canada.
