The CD40 receptor can be useful target for cancer gene therapies

by Sonia Nichols, senior medical writer - Medical researchers believe CD40 would be an excellent candidate receptor for adenovirus-mediated gene therapies targeting cancer in the ovaries and other areas of the body.

Many tumor cells do not express the coxsackie and adenovirus receptor (CAR), for which adenoviruses show a natural affinity. As a result, scientists have explored other cellular components for their ability to foster adenovirus infection.
