Occurrence of aflatoxin M-1 in raw cow's milk appears to be low in Spain

A method for determining aflatoxin M-1 in milk was tested and milk in Leon and Spain was found to be below set limits. According to a study from Spain, "Raw cow milk collected from dairy farms in the province of Leon, Spain, was examined for aflatoxin M-1 (AFM1). The samples were analyzed with a commercial competitive ELISA kit and HPLC. "The concentrations of AFM1 in milk extracts were initially estimated by ELISA, with recovery rates of 74.6-109% for artificially contaminated milk at levels of 10-80 ng/l.
