Chronic active Epstein-Barr virus infection (CAEBV) produces natural killer cells with little or no expression of the typical leukocyte-associated immunoglobulin-like receptor-1 (LAIR-1). According to recent research from Canada, "CAEBV infection is an uncommon and severe manifestation of EBV infection that frequently leads to the development of natural killer (NK) or T cell lymphomas.
