Restoring protein expression may slow disease spread

A new study has found that restoring the expression of a protein called RKIP in metastatic prostate cancer cells is associated with decreased cell invasion in vitro, fewer lung metastases in vivo, and reduced vascular invasion in the primary tumor.

Zheng Fu, PhD, and Evan T. Keller, DVM, PhD, of the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, and their colleagues published the findings in the June 18, 2003, issue of the Journal of the National Cancer Institute.
