Scientists confirm a link between hepatitis C virus and non-Hodgkin lymphoma

by Sonia Nichols, senior medical writer - The authors of an Italian multicenter study have confirmed an association between hepatitis C virus infection and the risk for acquiring B-cell non-Hodgkin lymphoma.

"The existence of an association between infection with hepatitis C virus (HCV) and B-cell non-Hodgkin lymphoma (B-NHL) remains controversial, largely because previous studies were based on prevalent case series or comparisons with less than optimal control groups," explained Alfonso Mele and coworkers, Instituto Superiore di Sanita, Rome, Italy.
