NCI awards grant for therapies targeting connective tissue growth factor

FibroGen, Inc., announced that the company has received a phase I small business innovation research (SBIR) grant from the National Cancer Institute (NCI), part of the National Institutes of Health (NIH), to support the development of new anticancer agents targeting connective tissue growth factor (CTGF).

CTGF is a protein implicated in a wide range of cancers including pancreatic cancer, acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL), breast cancer, esophageal cancer, and glioblastoma.

CTGF promotes angiogenesis, a process by which new blood vessels are formed that can supply tumors with oxygen and nutrients needed for sustained survival and growth. As part of...
