Nonmelanoma cancer associated with other cancers

Women with a history of nonmelanoma skin cancer are at significantly greater risk for other cancers, regardless of age, ethnicity, socioeconomic background, or other lifestyle risk factors.

This finding comes from a new study published in the January 1, 2004, issue of Cancer and supports previous studies reporting this association. The investigators also reported a new observation, that the increased second cancer risk is greater for black women than white women. The full study was published online November 17 via Wiley InterScience (www.interscience.wiley.com/cancer).
