Methylation of genes in the upper aerodigestive tract epithelium of smokers

Researchers in Austria say the methylation of genes in the upper aerodigestive tract epithelium of smokers is a potential cancer marker that warrants further investigation.

According to recent research published in the International Journal of Cancer, "an important method for silencing tumor suppressor genes in cancers is by aberrant methylation (referred to as methylation) of CpG islands in gene promoter regions.
