Low-dose CY/TBI/SCT regimen effective against Fanconi anemia + MDS/AML

A regimen of low-dose CY, TBI and SCT is safe and effective for FA + MDS/AML patients.

In a recent study from Saudi Arabia, "[f]ive patients with confirmed Fanconi anemia (FA) and myelodysplasia and/or leukemia underwent stem-cell transplantation (SCT) from related donors".

"The median age at SCT was 12.6 year (range, 6.2-15 years)," noted M. Ayas and coauthors working at King Faisal Specialist Hospital and Research Center in Riyadh. "Conditioning regimen consisted of cyclophosphamide (CY) 5mg/kg/day i.v. for four days, total body irradiation (TBI) 450cGy in a single dose.
