Ritonavir treatment may benefit glioblastoma patients

Ritonavir therapy may be beneficial for glioma patients.

"Glioblastoma is a therapeutic challenge as a highly infiltrative, proliferative, and resistant tumor," scientists in France explained. "Among novel therapeutic approaches, proteasome inhibition is very promising in controlling cell cycle and inducing apoptosis."

In a recent study, N. Laurent and colleagues at INSERM Unit 421 in Creteil "investigated the effect of ritonavir, a protease inhibitor of HIV and a proteasome modulator, on glioma cells."
