Breast biopsy specimens can be evaluated with proteomic analysis

Researchers introduce a method of analyzing breast biopsy specimens using proteomic techniques. "Analysis of tumor samples by a proteomic technology, which combines two-dimensional gel electrophoresis and mass spectrometry analysis, is a promising approach for molecular characterization of cancer," scientists in Italy report. "Proteomic analysis of neoplasms is usually performed on surgical material. The possibility to perform proteomic analysis on preoperative samples might be useful for diagnostic purposes or for determination of tumor sensitivity to therapy," wrote A.
