Scripps Research Institute plans Florida research hospital

The Scripps Research Institute plans to bring a 200-bed research hospital to northern Palm Beach County, Florida, to speed the process of turning research into new treatments for cancer, heart disease, Alzheimer and other ailments. Scripps President Richard Lerner said March 17, 2004, pairing scientists with a specialized hospital would enable them to track laboratory discoveries through early tests on humans. Such tests are a critical first step in attracting investments from venture capital and pharmaceutical firms, he said.
