More complications occur with the abdominal-assisted Kraske procedure

The traditional Kraske procedure has fewer complications and is safer for treating rectal disease than the abdominal-assisted procedure.

"The Kraske procedure offers a sphincter-saving alternative for surgical correction of rectal disease. This study was performed to investigate the complication rate with the traditional (trans-sacral) Kraske procedure versus an abdominal-assisted Kraske approach (laparoscopic or open)," scientists in the United States report.
