Novel method enhances peptide and protein extraction from serum

A novel extraction technique facilitates isolation of peptides and proteins from serum samples for mass spectrometry analysis.

According to published research from Maryland, a "method to extract peptides and low molecular weight proteins from serum under denaturing conditions using acetonitrile containing 0.1 % trifluoroacetic acid has been developed."

"The extraction procedure precipitates large, abundant proteins to simplify subsequent mass spectral analysis," explained O. Chertov and coauthors at the National Cancer Institute-Frederick.
