Raf-1 activation linked to pathogenesis

Raf-1 activation appears to be heavily involved in the pathogenesis of hepatocellular carcinoma.

"Liver cirrhosis accompanies at least 70% of hepatocellular carcinomas world-wide," hepatologists in South Korea noted.

"To evaluate the dysregulation of apoptosis and the MAPK pathway in hepatocarcinogenesis," Y.H. Hwang and colleagues at the Catholic Research Institute of Medical Science in Seoul "investigated the expression profiles of the genes involved in apoptosis and MAPK pathway in cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma."
