High incidence of autoimmune hemolytic anemia complicating SCT in children

There is a high incidence of autoimmune hemolytic anemia complicating stem cell transplantation in pediatric patients.

"Hemolytic anemia is a recognized complication of hematopoietic cell transplantation (HCT) and can result from alloimmune- or autoimmune-derived antibodies. Unlike alloimmune hemolytic anemia, autoimmune hemolytic anemia (AIHA) is poorly understood, particularly in the pediatric population where only case reports have been published.
