Federal report shows number of Iowa smokers drops

Iowa falls in the middle of the states in the number of adults who smoke, according to a government survey that shows a drop in the number of men who light up.

The [U.S.] Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the federal government agency responsible for tracking public health issues, recently released the survey that looked at the number of smokers in all 50 states.

Iowa ranked 24th in the nation with 21.7% of adults reporting they smoked.

Nationally, 22.1% of adults smoked. Utah reported the lowest smoking rate with 12% and Kentucky had the highest rate, at 30.8%, the CDC said.
