Microarray-based diagnostic test has reached level 3 in evidence-based medicine

Agendia, a genomics company based in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, collaborating with the TRANSBIG translational research network, announced at the San Antonio Breast Cancer conference that the 70-gene expression signature (MammaPrint) outperformed all currently used standard diagnostic criteria in predicting future development of distant metastases (the development of tumors in other parts of the body) and overall survival in a large breast cancer study. The international validation project was led by TRANSBIG. The data analysis was carried out independently by a statistical team in Belgium.
