Study: Folate supplements during pregnancy may increase long-term cancer risk

Preliminary data suggest that folate supplementation during pregnancy may increase a mother's long-term risk of breast cancer. Study authors emphasize that the findings may be due to chance finding and require confirmation. The data were reported in the December 11, 2004, British Medical Journal. Authors of an accompanying commentary on the paper also emphasize the preliminary nature of the data and the likelihood that the results are due to chance.
