S-1 demonstrates antitumor activity in biliary tract cancer

Researchers from Japan reported antitumor activity in a study of an oral fluoropyrimidine derivative, S-1, in patients with advanced biliary tract cancer.

H. Ueno and coauthors wrote, "The aim of this study was to investigate the efficacy and safety of an oral fluoropyrimidine derivative, S-1, in patients with advanced biliary tract cancer.

"Patients with pathologically confirmed advanced biliary tract cancer, a measurable lesion, and no history of radiotherapy or chemotherapy were enrolled. S-1 was administered orally (40 mg m(-2) b.i.d.) for 28 days, followed by a 14-day rest period."
