Low serum HDL-C may be biomarker of cancer risk in overweight and obese women

A study from Norway suggests that low serum levels of high-density lipoprotein cholesterol may be an indicator of breast cancer risk in overweight or obese women.

"Low serum high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) is an important component of the metabolic syndrome and has recently been related to increased breast cancer risk in overweight and obese women. We therefore questioned whether serum HDL-C might be a biologically sound marker of breast cancer risk," wrote Anne Sofie Furberg and colleagues, University of Tromso.
