Altered cell cycle gene expression marks aggressive tumors

Alterations in cell cycle gene expression can be used to identify highly aggressive neuroblastoma (NB) tumors.

In a recent study from the United States, "gene expression profiling was performed on 103" NB tumors, "stages 1-4 with and without MYCN amplification, using cDNA microarrays containing 42,578 elements."

"Using principal component analysis (PCA) to analyze the relationships among these samples," A.L. Krasnoselsky and coauthors at the National Cancer Institute confirmed that "the global patterns of gene expression reflect the phenotype of the tumors."
