Cryoablation treatment helps diminish pain of bone cancer

Pain from cancer that has spread to the bone can be effectively diminished with a new treatment that freezes the cancerous areas, Mayo Clinic researchers reported at the 30th Annual Scientific Meeting of the Society of Interventional Radiology in New Orleans.

The treatment can provide a higher quality of life to patients whose activities are greatly limited because of the debilitating pain, said Matthew Callstrom, MD, PhD, a radiologist at Mayo Clinic in Rochester and the chief author of the abstract.
