'Last Drag' campaign launched to reach smokers in gay and lesbian community

Responding to disproportionately high smoking rates among lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) individuals, Los Angeles County's Tobacco Control and Prevention Project announced the launch of a pioneering campaign to promote tobacco cessation to the LGBT community.

The "Last Drag" campaign consists of smoking cessation workshops specifically developed for LGBT individuals, advertising, a web site and the first gay anti-smoking street team.

Data released by the California Department of Health Services (CDHS) in September shows the overall smoking rate for LGBT individuals at 30.4%, nearly double that of the general population rate of 15.4%....
