Beneficial effects of liver transplantation noted for hepatocellular carcinoma

A study from Turkey has detailed liver transplantation and tacrolimus monotherapy for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) with expanded criteria.

"Liver transplantation is the only curative treatment option for patients with cirrhosis and unresectable HCC without extrahepatic dissemination. Criteria for transplantation in HCC are controversial."

"In this study," wrote A. Dalgic and colleagues, Baskent University Hospital, "we evaluate the early results of liver transplantation for unresectable HCC."
