NCI SPORE grant will fund basic and translational breast cancer research

The University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center has been awarded a National Cancer Institute Specialized Programs of Research Excellence (SPORE) grant for breast cancer research, the 10th such grant earned by the institution since 1996.

Gabriel Hortobagyi, MD, professor and chair of the Department of Breast Medical Oncology, is the principal investigator of the newest SPORE overseeing the administration of the 3-year, $4.6 million grant awarded exclusively for breast cancer research grant, as well as one of the five major research projects.
