Recent studies add new data to breast cancer research

Investigators in the United States and Japan have published new breast cancer data. Study 1: According to recent research published in the journal Nuclear Medicine and Biology, treatment with rhenium-188-perrhenate ((ReO4-)-Re-118) and iodine-131 (I-131) of Na+/I- symporter (NIS)-expressing mammary cancer in a mouse model remarkably inhibits tumor growth. "Novel therapeutic modalities are needed for breast cancer patients in whom standard treatments are not effective. Mammary gland sodium/iodide symporter has been identified as a molecular target in breast cancers in humans and in some transgenic mouse models." ...
