Synta Pharmaceuticals gets U.S. FDA fast track status for STA-4783 in metastatic melanoma

Synta Pharmaceuticals Corp., a biopharmaceutical company focused on discovering and developing small molecule drugs, announced that its lead oncology drug candidate STA-4783 has been granted fast track designation by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for the treatment of metastatic melanoma, a serious type of skin cancer.

In a recently completed, phase 2b double-blind, randomized, controlled clinical trial in patients with Stage IV metastatic malignant melanoma, treatment with STA-4783 plus paclitaxel achieved the primary endpoint of increasing progression-free survival.
